The inspiration of using pattern to create my self portrait came from a visit to Asia contemporary art show held in Hong Kong this spring. One of the arkwork was Marilyn Monroe drawn with pattern of checkrs which catch my attention.
fabric is a material not easy to add colours on. I choose a piece of checked fabric which can bring a 3D effect of my drawing. Besides, i wish to turn a dull looking checker pattern into a lively-looking picture, that is the reason why I choose to draw an energetic and mordern look of my self portrait.
I made use of characteristics of different sizes of checkers, applying with different brightness of acrylic colours to bring out layers of depth. the 3D effect turns a lateral face into a livly smiling face.
It is created by experimenting on a checked fabric by using the method of applying different brightness of colours to make depth. In addition of lines ,appearance is more obvious.
The disparity between the rich and the poor is growing in the society. Hong Kong is a small city ,however, the distance between people is huge. Although everyone realize this problem, the government has done little measure to improve the lives of the low income class.
People only cares about their own living and sometimes have a misconception of towards the poor.I join school activities to visit the underprivileged several times ,and I found that they need care desperately.
In this drawing,I wish to express some positive action that the society can do more : visiting the elderly , sharing food with low-income families, giving tutorials to students with limited resources, caring towards little kids ect.
Volunteering works are not time-wasting, it is meaningful can build up relationship. Even though we do not know each other, love can make a difference, make it happen in our society, Hong Kong.
As I am passionate flowers lover , I take pictures of them occasionally and sometimes I would love to draw their characteristics as well. Because of this reason, I have a postcard size collection of the close-up of flowers and I am continuously drawing them as an activity in my leisure time.
